FAQs

  • Counselling is a time and financial commitment. As far as it is possible, Arise counselling will endeavour to provide counselling at an affordable price.

We ask for payment based on a sliding scale of income, which will be discussed during an initial assessment.

The amount of payment is agreed through a conversation with the counselling manager or a member of the referral team before your initial session. We endeavour not to turn anyone away because of financial limitations. Please do contact us to discuss lower costs. Payments can be made by cash, cheque or card*, or pre-paid by BACS transfer.

  • Arise Counselling Service is located at Jubilee Community Centre, East Grinstead.

In person and Zoom appointments are available Monday-Friday.

Appointment times will depend on availability of counsellors and your availability.

  • Taking the first step of contacting a counsellor can be daunting and we seek to make the process as reassuring and simple as possible.

Once you have filled in the ‘Contact Us’ section, the counselling manager will contact you within two working days to arrange an initial assessment appointment,

She will also discuss when you are available and agree the fee for the sessions including the assessment session.

  • If you cannot make a session, we ask that you inform your counsellor or contact Arise Counselling Service through the website as soon as possible.

During the initial session, your counsellor will go through the cancellation policy; for a late cancellation (less than 48hrs) or multiple cancellations there may be a fee. If two sessions are missed consecutively without notice, or multiple sessions are missed within a two month period without due reason, Arise Counselling Service reserves the right to pause or terminate the counselling process. This is due to the high demand for counselling spaces. Once you are able to recommit to a regular time, sessions can be resumed according to counsellor availability.

  • The initial session is a chance for you to meet your counsellor and discuss what brings you to counselling and what you would like to gain from the counselling process.

The counsellor will go through some questions to gain some background information as well as an agreement between yourself and Arise Counselling Service, which explains the counselling relationship further.

You can either sign the agreement in the first assessment or reflect further and email the service to confirm when you are ready to start.

  • This is up to you! Each person discusses and designs their own counselling experience with their counsellor, deciding the focus of each session.

There is no expectation to discuss issues of faith in counselling. For some, however, personal and spiritual issues are inextricably linked and faith is an important aspect. Your counsellor will work with you in a way that is compatible with your goals and worldview.

  • Ideally counselling takes place on a weekly basis for a maximum of 26 sessions.

Each counsellor will regularly review the counselling process to ensure the sessions remain relevant and beneficial.

In exceptional circumstances this may be extended if deemed necessary and agreed by the client, counsellor and counselling manager .
