Make a difference – Become a Trustee

Arise Counselling Service is a small, independent Christian charity born out of the vision of the local church in East Grinstead, to provide affordable counselling for the people of East Grinstead and the surrounding area.

All the counsellors and trustees working with Arise have a Christian faith and agree with the Evangelical Alliance statement of faith. However, it is not the purpose of Arise to advance, teach, or promote the Christian faith, and our counselling is available to people of all faiths and none.

To help our charity grow, we need skilled and committed individuals, who are enthusiastic about the vision and values of Arise, to join our developing Board. Please take a look around our website to find out more and/or you can read our most recent Annual Report on the Charities Commission website.

Skills

We are looking to grow the diversity of our Board of Trustees, and individuals with the following skills and experience would be welcomed:

  • Charity Leadership

  • Charity Governance

  • Charity Finance

  • Human Resources

  • Community Engagement

  • User Experience

Trustee duties

As a Trustee, you will be jointly responsible for setting the overall direction of the charity, ensuring that the charity operates in accordance with its statutory duties and delivers its goals, in line with its vision and values.

We expect our Trustees to:

• Contribute to discussions and direct the team on issues within their area of expertise.

• Attend the two-hour quarterly meetings which currently take place in January, April, July and October. These are held at Jubilee Community Centre in East Grinstead, but we would consider meeting via Zoom/Teams where appropriate. (Extraordinary meetings may occasionally be called, if required.)

• Follow up on actions from Board meetings, liaise on various issues between meetings, attend training, review Board papers and liaise with the Counselling Manager on operational issues as necessary.

(This role does not require client contact.)
